I purchased this linen a couple years ago from a local supplier of deadstock fabrics. I’ve been reluctant to use it, partly because I’ve grown attached to it, seeing it in my studio and imaging what I could make out of it. And partly because it has such a nice textured weight to it, and it’s such pretty colour, that I haven’t wanted to cut it up. My friend Jessica made a dress from the same batch of fabric—it’s seen many spins through the washing machine and looks better than when it was new. But the summer has bolstered my interest in working on new bag designs that are colourful and lightweight, so I made a small batch of these “box” totes. They’re very roomy, with two inside pockets and two sets of handles for versatility.
